Hospice of Santa Barbara provides many counseling programs for those affected by a loss, and not only terminally ill patients. Some programs focus on children who have a hard time dealing with the death of a loved one. About one child in 20 loses at least one caretaker before becoming an adult, and 20 percent of teens experience the death of a family member before 18 years old. The services provided by Hospice of Santa Barbara aim to help these kids. Kenny Slaught notes that the programs are helpful for children who are at risk of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
